​Community Outreach Ministries partners with the Salvation Army to provide additional resources to Polk County. As a Service Extension of the Salvation Army, COM gets to use 85% of funds donated to the Salvation Army for use in Polk County. We use this money to assist local families with rent, utilities, medication, and transportation.

The red kettle campaign is the primary source of these funds. Bell ringing begins the day after Thanksgiving and ends December 31st. Currently, three businesses in Bolivar have kindly allowed Salvation Army to place red kettles at their business entrances.  Members from the community can volunteer at Walgreens, Walmart, and/or Woods for an opportunity to ring the bell for Polk County.  In order for the bell ringing campaign to be successful, we need YOU to volunteer your time to ring the bell. Watch for signups on this page beginning in late summer.


Bell Ringing Instructions:

  • If no one is out with the kettle when you arrive at your ringing location, simply pick up the kettle from the customer service desk.

  • If no one comes at the end of your shift to take-over ringing the bell, simply return the kettle to the customer service desk.

  • Always ring with a smile! 

SPECIAL COVID-19 Precautions for 2020:

  • Masks and gloves must be worn

  • All bell-ringers have to have hand sanitizer

  • As someone approaches to put money in the kettle the bell-ringer is expected to step away to maintain a 6’ social distance

  • Where local store guidelines are different, they are to be followed
